Dakar is a little-known but exciting underwater destination for experienced divers. Its volcanic seabed and rocky plateaus are home to a wide variety of species and several renowned exploration sites.
Departures take place from Ngor or the Plateau, two areas offering quick access to the main dive spots: the Cargo Wrecks, the Ngor Cliffs, and the Soumbédioune Plateau. These sites allow dives between 10 and 30 meters deep, with visibility varying depending on the season.
After checking the equipment and receiving a briefing on the day’s site, the group boards for a short boat ride. The dive lasts between 40 and 50 minutes. Each pair is supervised by a dive guide who knows the currents and descent zones perfectly. The underwater terrain is impressive: caves, fissures, and rocks covered in seaweed sheltering abundant marine life — groupers, seabream, lionfish, and sometimes rays. The activity is ideal for those who want to experience the more technical and authentic side of Senegalese diving. On the way back, a debriefing covers the observations and conditions encountered.
After the dive, participants can visit the Mamelles, the African Renaissance Monument, or stroll through the village of Ngor to extend the maritime experience.
